Northern Southeast Alaska ARES
We are comprised of members of the Juneau Amateur Radio Club who have a desire to provide communications in the event of an emergency.
In addition to emergency communications we provide communications for special events including the 4th of July parade.
We use the JARC linked repeater system for our weekly net, which provides coverage from Juneau to Haines. Should all parts of the JARC repeater system fail we also have the ability to use “stand alone” repeaters at Mount Roberts or Eaglecrest, which covers most of the Juneau area.
Training for ARES members is provided on-line with our extensive links to training material in addition to the weekly net. We also participate in the annual Field Day. the Simulated Emergency Test, the national SKYWARN net, and other "on air" events.
For additional information contact , Larry, KL7IWC, Emergency Coordinator Northern Southeast Alaska Amateur Radio Emergency Services.
The Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) net meets on 147.30 MHz at 19:00 on Tuesdays

ARES Net Preamble (for Net Control)
Preamble:
- QST, QST, QST Good evening and welcome. This is amateur station <your callsign phonetically>, Net control for tonight’s session of the Southeast Alaska ARES Net. My name is <your name> and I am transmitting from <your location > on the <which repeater> repeater.
- This Net meets every Tuesday at 1900 hours local Juneau time on this linked repeater system. A 100 HZ encoded tone is required to access this system. If an emergency or disaster were to occur, the Net would convene on this repeater. In the event of a repeater system failure net operations will be conducted on the national simplex calling frequency of 146.52 MHz or on the repeater at the Eaglecrest ski area on 147.36 MHz.
- IS THERE ANY EMERGENCY OR PRIORITY TRAFFIC? Please list now, and all stations copy. (over)
Member Check Ins:
- Hearing none, to check into the net please say: “this is” and then release your PTT to see if you’re doubling with anyone. If not, continue giving your call sign phonetically and advise if you have any routine traffic to pass. Visiting stations are always welcome and will be invited to check in later.
- I am now ready for member check-ins for the ARES Net
Before continuing or clarifying missed call signs, delegate one ARES check-in to call for check ins on the Eaglecrest repeater 147.36. and another person to call for check ins on 3.933 (Sitka).
Please use the following language:
- <callsign>, please move to the Eagle Crest repeater at 147.36 MHz.
- <callsign>, please call for checkins on 3.933 (Sitka)
- Is there anyone else who would like to check in for the Southeast Alaska ARES Net?
- Is there any priority or other traffic?
After people check in you will read back the call signs heard for clarity and in case anyone is missing. You can also ask if others might need relays.
Keep the airway open while you wait for check backs.
Relays and Visitors:
- Does any station have a relay to pass along for checkins that I didn't copy, or that I missed?
- Do we have any visitors with us tonight? Please user your callsign to check in at this time.
Announcements:
- Are there any announcements?
If yes, ask for their traffic.
- Is there any other traffic or announcements for the good of the net?
Net control can make announcements now and speak about club news, if there is any.
- Reminder that there is a standing luncheon at Safeway on Wednesdays at noon.
Volunteers for Net Control:
- Volunteers for net control duties are always welcome and encouraged. If anyone is willing to be net control for next week please call now.
Extra training is provided if you would like to volunteer. It's easy if 4-5 people are willing to do this and take turns.
- Next week's net controller will be <the volunteer>. If no one is available the first person online please assume net control for that night.
Closing:
- Thanks to everyone for your participation in the net. Thanks also to the Juneau Amateur Radio Club for providing this repeater system. This is amateur station <callsign>, net control for the Southeast Alaska ARES net, closing the net at <military time> local time.
- This repeater/frequency is now returned to regular amateur user. This is <callsign>, clear.
