ARRL Field Day 2026

ARRL Field Day 2026

Save the date: ARRL Field Day 2026 is June 27–28, and the Juneau Amateur Radio Club (KL7JRC) is once again setting up at the Hagevig Regional Fire Training Center in the Mendenhall Valley. This is amateur radio’s largest on‑the‑air event and part picnic, part emergency drill, and part contest.

What is ARRL Field Day?

ARRL Field Day is an annual 24‑hour exercise where amateur radio operators (hams) across the US and Canada deploy radios and antennas in the field to practice operating under emergency or portable conditions. Stations work to contact as many other Field Day sites as possible while demonstrating the resilience of radio communication when normal infrastructure is unavailable.

The 2026 theme is “Amateur Radio: A National Resource,” highlighting how radio connects communities and supports public service and emergency response.

Try radio for yourself

Visitors will have a chance to get on the air under the supervision of a licensed control operator—no license required. You can make real contacts across Alaska, Canada, the Lower 48, and beyond, and learn how amateur radio fits into emergency communications and community service.[web:2][web:3][web:15]

Club members will also be available to talk about:

  • How to earn your first amateur radio license
  • Local repeaters and operating opportunities in Juneau
  • Emergency and public‑service communications in Southeast Alaska
  • Equipment options for getting started on HF, VHF, and UHF

Families and youth are especially encouraged to stop by. We’ll do our best to match visitors with operating modes and bands that showcase what makes amateur radio fun.
